In a tight game against Gordon College, the Hawks came out on top with a shutout in their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) appearance of the season.

According to Head Coach Danielle Soubliere, every match against the Fighting Scots is a close battle. Even though the past two years they’ve produced shutouts against Gordon, each match has always ended in a short deficit. They won Wednesday’s match in three straight sets 25-18, 25-23, 25-23.

Freshman Katherine Pickard was the most valuable player Wednesday night with 12 kills and four blocks. However, junior Lara LoIacono was not far behind her with 10 kills, one block and two aces.

Seniors Molly Quilty and Nicki Fallisi also showed up for a combined 11 kills, six blocks and one ace.

Wednesday night’s game landed the Hawks a second place seat in the CCC. Their next conference game will be Thursday, Sept. 27 against #1 Wentworth Institute of Technology in Bristol.

Wentworth remained in the top half of the conference standings after their 3-2 victory over Salve Regina University that pushed SRU to the bottom half of the CCC after being ranked third in the pre-season polls.
