This past week, the March Meltdown was in full swing by the Campus Entertainment Network. A yearly event leading up to the announcement of the Spring Concert artist and Comedian. With a superhero theme, the meltdown included the Her-oic League highlighting the women of Roger with Women in Construction, Women in Business, Women of Color and other women-led organizations on campus for a night of fun activities, crafts and games. The Power Up Putt night was a trip to Monster Mini-Golf where students could enjoy a night off campus playing indoor mini-golf and arcade games.
Luka Kovacevich, the Co-Chair of CEN said “Power up putt night was a major success that had students playing minigolf where at one point there was a group on every hole of the course.”
On Friday, students headed to the rec center where they could enjoy DIY plant pottery, catered by Chic-Fil-A and see CEN unroll the banner for the concert and comedian.
“I can say that students enjoyed painting and decorating flower pots for them to use and plant a variety of flowers or succulents,” said Olivia Sorrell, secretary for CEN.
The Meltdown announced the Spring Concert artist as Fitz and the Tantrums, an indie pop band with hit songs including HandClap and Out of My League. The comedian is Troy Bond, an NYC based stand-up comedian who is known for his sharp crowdwork and millions of followers across social media.
“I don’t know who the comedian is but it was super cool to see fitz and the tantrums be announced as the concert, I know some of their songs and I’m excited to see them performed!” said Celeste Roberson, a senior who attended Friday’s event to see the announcement.
In a poll put out by the Herald on instagram, out of the 43 people who participated, 26 percent said they are excited it was them and 40 percent said it was not what they were hoping for while 35 percent said neutral. CEN gives students the opportunity to vote for the artist out of a list of artists in two rounds of surveys. Students are given one survey to vote for a comedian as well.
“This year’s March meltdown went phenomenally well. We were all so excited going into this week not only for the reveal but for the other events we had going on. It was great to see the community on campus come together for these events,” says Kovacevich.
The March Meltdown concluded with a Marvel’s Thunderbolts movie screening and themed bingo night on Saturday where students had the opportunity to win big prizes. The Spring Concert will be during Spring Week 2026, Hawks just Wanna have Fun.
