In a school full of disorganized dorm rooms and busy schedules, Roger Williams University students want a companion they can forget about. On Friday, Feb. 6 at 9 p.m. Roger After Dark (RAD) hosted “Pet Rock Night” in the Global Heritage Hall (GHH) atrium.
Empty rocks, googly eyes, and miniature hats filled tables, soon to become treasures each with their own unique expression. Students lined up waiting to carefully pick out the perfect rock to be their pet and which accessory best suited their pocket-sized friend.
Once faces were painted and pasted together and dozens of one of a kind pet rocks had been created it was time to write up a birth certificate. This comical added touch brought each pet rock to life, giving each a name and personality of their own.
Whether these pet rocks go on to be tossed away or maybe cherished and written into their owners will, it is certain that these “forever pets” created a night of creativity and laughter.
Pet Rock Night has become somewhat of a campus tradition now with RAD continuing to put on the event annually, so be sure to not miss next year’s event. To continue the fun, join RAD to help celebrate WQRI’s 50th anniversary with a karaoke night on Feb. 28 in GHH from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
