Roger Williams University’s radio station WQRI celebrated their 50th anniversary with a karaoke night in Global Heritage Hall (GHH), on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. The night featured mocktails with edible glitter made by Roger After Dark (RAD) members. The glimmering mocktails added to the “Golden Glamour” theme and guests were encouraged to dress with golden jewelry, accessories, and swag.
Station managers, Bowie Diaz and Skylar Gianninoto, organized the event and were excited to see what the celebration would bring. Diaz stated, “I’m excited to see people in their element with good food and mocktails”. Gianninoto added, “I can’t wait to see people’s performances and see them put themselves out there–I think it’s going to be a great night!”

It comes as no surprise that karaoke brings an energetic audience, especially when student clubs and organizations collaborate to celebrate a milestone like this. Solos and group songs were performed with all types of genres showcased in GHH.
To sign up for a song, guests were directed to scan a QR code to select their song and be placed in the queue. The app used for this was KaraFun, an online karaoke app that manages song queue, selection, and automatically plays songs based on sign up order.
After singing, each person received a WQRI 50th anniversary trophy, reminiscent of the Oscars! This golden element added a great incentive for everyone to perform and get out of their comfort zone.
WQRI’s 50th anniversary karaoke celebration in collaboration with RAD brought laughter, music, and a golden night of fun!
