The Men’s Ice Hockey team saw a close game against Bridgewater State University on Sunday, Oct. 15.
The Hawks fell behind early, letting up a powerplay goal that put Bridgewater state up 1-0. Yet, the Hawks would respond in no time with a game-tying goal from Pat Codeanne.
Shortly after, the Hawks capitalized on an out of position Bridgewater defense with a goal from Grady Chretien, putting the Hawks up 2-1. The Hawks lead was short lived as the end of the first saw a last-minute goal from Bridgewater which put the score at 2-2.
The second period brought even more excitement with Freshman forward Collin Berube scoring his first goal as a Hawk and giving Roger Williams a 3-2 lead. Bridgewater would not let this lead last, responding with a power play goal that tied the game 3-3. Bridgewater fortified their offensive attack, taking a 4-3 lead after capitalizing on a broken play.
Excitingly, Berube would score his second goal as a Hawk, tying the game 4-4 going into the third period. The third period was shaped by fierce physical play from both teams. A tie break came in the last few minutes of the game with Dylan Coyne burying a game-winning shot assisted by Peyton Defeo and Grady Chretien.
This last goal secured the 5-4 victory for Roger Williams, giving the Hawks a (2-1-0) record.
