If you are looking for entertainment and local festivities, these upcoming October festivals will put you in the fall spirit. Grab a group of friends and take a day trip to explore the Ocean State. Rhode Island has so much to offer and its size makes many events easily accessible without having to travel too far.

Aside from apple picking and pumpkin patches, there are a lot of festivals coming this month. The Rogue Island Comedy Festival in Newport is sure to be a fun time as stand up comedians from Comedy Central to SNL come to Rhode Island, bringing original, hilarious jokes to the table in the state’s only comedy festival. Join others in seeing the comedians Oct. 10 – 14 at several venues, including the Jane Pickens Theater & Event Center, Top of Pelham, Gurney’s Newport and Firehouse Theater. If you are looking for a laugh this Columbus Day Weekend, this event is a must-see!

Calling all seafood lovers — you will not want to miss the 29th Annual Newport Seafood Festival! The event will take place Oct. 19 – 20 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Historic Bowen’s Wharf in Newport. It will be extended to 6 p.m. on Saturday. This festival will serve fresh, local seafood such as oysters and fish tacos right on the waterfront. Featuring lots of seafood selections and live music under colorful tents on the wharf, this is a fall tradition you will not want to miss.

If eating seafood in abundance is not your cup of tea, you are in luck. The Harvest Festival at Smith’s Castle in North Kingstown will be taking place on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 12-4 p.m. (Rain Date scheduled for Oct. 20). Handcrafted items, goods and food for families with small children and adults alike will be available. Enjoy a relaxing autumn day with historic house tours and educational opportunities all around.

After having a laugh, eating your fill of seafood and embracing local history and handmade goods, head over to the Warren Walkabout on Sunday, Oct. 20 to experience and support local artists. The event is taking place on 30 Cutler St. in Warren. Here, the artist studios will be open to the public, featuring art, independent businesses, food and so much more. Enjoy the waterfront views, shops, boutiques, architecture and most importantly a view into the world of local artists. Come to experience the art and live music just one town over from Bristol!
