Movies with Ian: 10 movies to watch this Halloween

1.      “The Thing” 

A group of research scientists are working at their base camp when they are interrupted by a helicopter shooting at a sled dog. The scientists decide to take the dog in as their own but come to realize that the dog is attacking people and can take the shape of its victims. This forces the helicopter pilot and the doctor to lead the crew in a battle against the dog, before it can kill everyone at the camp. 

 

2.      “The Fly”

A scientist creates a teleportation device and decides to test it on himself. When testing it out, a housefly slips in, causing the fly and main character to merge into one. At first, the transformation seems successful but slowly each fly cell takes over the man’s body, making him more fly-like. As the merge happens, his girlfriend grows more horrified as he becomes more of a monster.

 

3.      “Chillerama”

It’s closing night at the last drive-in movie theatre in America. The theatre plans to show four movies that have never been seen on American soil. The movies are “Wadzilla,” “I Was A Teenage Werebear,” “The Diary of Anne Frankenstein” and “The Zom-B-Movie.”

 

4.      “Gremlins”

A man buys a “mogwai” (cute, little creatures that can turn into gremlins) from a store in Chinatown. The shopkeeper reluctantly sells it to the man but instructs him to never expose the mogwai to bright light, water or to feed him after midnight. Ultimately, all of this happens and leads to a group of gremlins terrorizing the town on Christmas Eve. 

 

5.      “An American Werewolf in London”

Two teenagers are on a walking tour of Britain when they are attacked by a werewolf. The friend who survives is haunted by nightmares, in which his friend who died is telling him he’s becoming a werewolf. When the living friend discovers it’s true, he contemplates suicide before the next full moon to prevent a full transformation.

 

6.      “Beetlejuice”

A couple who died in a car accident finds themselves haunting their house, unable to leave when a family comes along and buys it. The spirits of the couple attempt to scare away the new family. Unable to succeed, their failed attempts attract Beetlejuice to come help; however, it causes everything to go south. 

 

7.      “ABC’s of Death”

A movie about 26 different ways to die; one for each letter of the alphabet.

 

8.      “Nightmare on Elm Street”

A group of four teenagers fall prey to Freddy Kruger, a demented murderer who attacks teens in their dreams, ultimately killing them in real life. The teens’ deaths lead to an investigation of the phenomenon.

 

9.      “Alien”

A crew on a commercial starship called Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home. They are ordered to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. 

10.  “The Scooby-Doo Project”

This movie can only be found on YouTube, as it was only shown once on television and was gone until someone uploaded it to the Internet. It is a Scooby-Doo parody of the Blair Witch Project. The movie ran in the 1999 Scooby-Doo marathon called “Scooby-Doo, where are you?” However, it never ran again and was never released on film.
