Roger Williams University students will soon present the research, capstones and creative projects that shaped their academic year during the university’s annual Student Academic Showcase and Honors, better known as SASH, set for Wednesday, April 22. The spring tradition highlights the work of both undergraduate and graduate students from across every discipline and serves as one of the university’s largest celebrations of student achievement.
Held each year near the end of the spring semester, SASH gives students the opportunity to share thesis presentations, honors projects, capstone research, panel discussions, design work, visual and multimedia exhibits, literary readings, theatrical showcases and community-engaged projects. The event reflects RWU’s emphasis on experiential learning and hands-on education, allowing students to present the results of months, and sometimes years, of academic work to the broader campus community.
For many seniors, the showcase marks one of their final academic milestones before graduation. Brenna Medeiros, Roger Williams senior who will be presenting multiple projects this spring said, “SASH means so much to students because we get to show off our hard work that we’ve spent months working on to faculty, parents, and friends.” It offers a chance to reflect on how their coursework, faculty mentorship and real-world learning experiences have prepared them for careers, graduate school and professional presentation settings.
Beyond celebrating academic excellence, SASH also reinforces the importance of public speaking, research communication and interdisciplinary collaboration. University organizers describe the event as a demonstration of the depth of student talent and the power of the hands-on learning that defines the RWU experience.
With classes paused for the day, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend sessions across campus, support their peers and explore projects outside their own fields of study. The day not only showcases student scholarship, but also offers attendees a look at the diverse ideas and innovation happening throughout the university.
