“The Bachelor” recap

Season 19 of “The Bachelorette” premiered last season starring not only one, but two bachelorettes. These two women go by the names of Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia. Bachelor fans are now welcoming the third runner-up from that season, Zach Shallcross as he debuts his journey as the season 27 Bachelor.

Zach is 26 years old and is originally from California. He is a big family guy who spent his days watching “Saved by the Bell” growing up. Before his journey as “the bachelor,” Zach served as a tech executive in California.

During the season finale live show of “The Bachelorette” back in September, the announcement was made about Shallcross becoming the next Bachelor. ABC held a surprise live meet and greet during the finale with 5 of the 32 girls. America was shocked and to his surprise, so was Zach.

The live audience as well as viewers from home were also able to give a live vote through the media and choose one of the girls to receive the “first impression rose.” That rose was given to Brianna Thorbourne during the live finale.

Zach was able to give his own first impression rose on night one in the mansion which was given to Greer Blitzer, leaving most of the other women feeling uneasy.

The season kicked off on January 23 and two episodes have been aired so far. Madison Johnson was sent home on night one before the first rose ceremony despite her efforts to kiss Mr. Shallcross. The bachelor claimed he was “following his heart and did not see a genuine connection with her.”

Zach also sent home 10 out of the 30 women on night one which was more than any other bachelor or bachelorette has in 12 years. So far Shallcross is showing America that he is doing nothing else but, “following his heart.”

The first one-on-one date was with Christina Mandrell who let Zach know about her pride and joy, her five-year-old daughter Blakely. Shallcross was taken aback yet was eager to keep getting to know the blonde beauty.

During the second rose ceremony, Zach sent three more girls home including Cat Carter who was one of the five at the surprise live meet and greet.

New episodes air at 8 p.m. ET Mondays on ABC and are available to stream the next day with a Hulu subscription.
