Get involved with CEN

Kiersten Resch Features Editor – Behind Global Heritage HAll (GHH), on of one of the most popular lawn spots on campus (as well as the most popular view stop for tour groups), was the location of the Campus Entertainment Network’s (CEN) most recent event–Get Involved With CEN. This warm, sunny day attracted students of all ages to the lawn behind Global Heritage Hall (GHH) during every minute of the event. With lawn games set up as well as free wings from Buffalo Wild Wings, music, and raffle prizes, students flocked outside for a good time. When asked about the event, sophomore Kayla Ebner said “It was a really cool setup at GHH. All of the CEN members were very pleasant and super willing to talk to anyone who was interested in joining the club.”

Even though free food is a great reason to go to a club event, CEN does a lot more for our student body’s entertainment than just provide food music and prizes–they take their commitment to the next level.

CEN is a volunteer, student-run organization responsible for creating, planning, and programming entertainment events on the RWU campus each year. They pride themselves on being able to provide quality entertainment throughout each event they put on.

The sections of CEN are Pride, Arts and Culture, Traditions, Where’s the Fun (WTF), and Community Liaison, all of which are run by students who enjoy putting on events to destress students in between or after classes. CEN also has an executive board consisting of chairs, a treasurer, an Arts and Culture representative, a Community Liaison representative, a Pride Programs representative, a Public Relations representative, Traditions representatives, WTF representatives, and an advisor.

What events has CEN put on? They have produced entertainment programs such as Roger Ruins 1, 2, 3, Weekend including R-Rated Hypnotist Frank Santos Jr., A Night at the Movies with CEN showing Zootopia on the GHH lawn, the fall concert with Smithfield, Granville, Automatic, and Kalie Shorr, and finally, the Fall Pep Rally Bonfire–just to name a few. Their events this semester have only just started, with many more to come as the year goes by.

CEN is always looking for new members to help them entertain everyone on campus. They welcome any new and innovative ideas to impact their programs or advertising. By joining the club, you are able to be included in the conversation of decision making to make an impact on the type of entertainment Roger Williams University students get to enjoy every year. Just like your time and ideas, feedback is important to CEN just as it is to any performance or performer.
