Fun runs and doughnuts – Class of 2018 hosts HawkTrot

By Jen Campisi, Features Manager – November 17

Early on a sunny Saturday morning, about fifty students signed up for a mile and a half fun run through campus. Not even the mid-thirty degree temps could deter runners from registering. The first annual Hawktrot race on Nov. 12 proved to be a success, especially for the ICC Class of 2018 who led the event. Representatives of all grade levels of the Inter-Class Council proudly cheered on fellow Hawks as they crossed the finish line with wide smiles and full stomachs.

The race began at the Admissions building and included some entertaining twists for participants. In a span of only about fifteen minutes, runners gobbled down donuts every quarter mile and completed an inflatable obstacle course in order to finish back at the Admissions building. In a series of three loops, participants ate three donuts each in order to complete the challenge.

“We had a really good turnout—about fifty people showed up. It was a little chilly, however everyone enjoyed the donuts and obstacle course!” said ICC Junior Class Treasurer, Meaghan O’Rourke.

“It was a lot of fun! I liked the obstacle course, that was definitely the best part of the race.” Sophomore Nina Ferreri remarked.

Fluorescent orange tee shirts were distributed to all participants and those involved, and they were proudly worn in Upper Commons during breakfast directly after the race’s completion.

“It was very successful! I had so much fun, the donuts were great, and the obstacle course was a lot of fun,” commented first-year student Melissa Cirulli. “It was pretty cold, but once we started running, it didn’t take long to warm up.”

At the conclusion of the race, after the ICC gathered for a celebratory huddle, O’Rourke was proud to elaborate on the success of Hawktrot 2016.

“It was the first year that we ever held this event, and we hope to make it a tradition!”
