Multi-colored lights illuminated Upper Commons on March 3 in preparation for “Light up the Night,” a concert by singer-songwriter Lauren Light.

Hosted by Roger Williams University’s Campus Entertainment Network (CEN), the free event included Panera pastries and several flavors of Light’s own tea.

The singer, who considers herself in the genre of “pop with soul,” performed covers of popular songs as well as some of her own original songs.

“I love my own songs first and foremost, but if I can do a really cool twist on a cover tune, I really enjoy doing that,” said Light, reflecting on her set list from the night.

Some covers included “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz, “Ex’s and Oh’s” by Elle King, “Not the Only One” by Sam Smith, “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon, and “Counting Stars” by OneRepublic, among many others. She also performed her own songs such as “Undone,” “Haven’t I Told You,” “Stay With Me,” “Steal the Night Away,” “Long Way Down,” and “Take Me As I Am,” which shares the title of her latest album.
