On March 29 and 30, the Roger Williams University’s Dance Department put on their Junior/Senior Dance Show at the RWU Performing Arts Center.

The planning of the show begins in early February, and all the juniors and seniors in the Dance department are given a spot in the show. The spots are reserved for majors, and anything goes for choreography. The show was mostly made up of both solos and duet performances, and each dancer played with a different theme such as color, sound, or certain types of movement.

Though there is some guidance from faculty members, the show is planned and run by dance students to fully immerse themselves in the experience. Freshmen and sophomores help out, but the focus is on the juniors and seniors. Emotions ran high for some of the students as this would be the last time they would work with one another.

Senior Giovanni Pinto performed a duet with junior Layne Willis, their last chance to work with one another before he graduates in May. Though he will still perform in the Dance Company Showcase in May, this performance with one of his best friends felt very raw for both of them.

“For me, this experience was a time for me to do a final duet with one of my close friends,” said Giovanni. “I was honored that Layne Willis wanted to create a duet with me and wouldn’t have had it any other way.”

Dance students’ focus will now move to the last show of 2016-2017 academic year. The Dance Theatre will be performed May 4-6 at 2 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
