Preview of Mr. RWU

After a long 10 weeks of fundraising and preparing for the big day, Mr. RWU contestants are almost ready to take the stage.

Six dedicated RWU students and their personal assistants have been working hard to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network at Hasbro Hospital. Last year, contestants raised a total of $10,917.

Junior Kevin Deeb was nominated for Mr. RWU last year, but declined the invitation because of his busy schedule. Now that he accepted the nomination, he wishes he did it last year because of the friendships and memories he made so far.

“Watching stories about the kids that are sick and how they benefit from the money that people raised during Mr. RWU is another big reason why I decided to do it,” said Deeb.

Deeb has participated in two of his own fundraisers for Mr. RWU: a hugging event and a pancake event. In October, Deeb hung out at commons for hours and raised money by offering hugs in exchange for donations for Mr. RWU. At this event, he raised over $230. He also participated in a pancake fundraiser on Nov. 26 that delivered pancakes to people on campus.

Deeb said one of his favorite parts of the Mr. RWU experience has been rehearsing the group dance and participating in fundraisers.

The show will consist of some amazing talent acts, including guitar playing, comedy, lip syncing and juggling, but you have to come to the show to find out which contestants will be doing what. The contestants will be judged based on their board game costumes (following the overall theme of this year’s event), their talent act, formal wear, a Q&A and how much money they raised.
