(NewsUSA) – Now more than ever, older adults recognize the importance of staying healthy. And their numbers are increasing. The U.S. population of adults aged 65 years and older is expected to be 88.5 million by the year 2050, according to U.S. Census Bureau projections. For many of these older adults, staying healthy includes working to control glucose levels because they have type 2 diabetes or meet the criteria for “pre-diabetes” with risk factors such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

The beverage industry is adapting to meet this long-term trend with a surge in “functional beverages” that provide health benefits beyond quenching thirst, and market research data show that healthy or functional beverages represent the largest growing category. A range of products already exist to help promote health, such as ready-to-drink nutrition shakes and probiotic-enhanced teas.

However, the diabetes and pre-diabetes drink category is a market ripe for expansion, as doctors and nutritionists agree that lifestyle and diet changes, including maintaining healthy blood sugar levels and digestion, can prevent the development of diabetes, reverse diabetes risk factors, and help avoid diabetes complications in some cases.

GlucoDown by Glucose Health Inc, publicly traded as GLUC, is one product line that has advanced to meet the needs of adults seeking healthy options.

GlucoDown is a powdered tea beverage based on a soluble dietary fiber that may help slow the body’s absorption of dietary sugars, moderate post-meal spikes in glucose levels, and promote digesrtive health.

“Our mission is to manufacture high-quality innovative functional beverages for the over-the-counter diabetic nutritionals category,” according to Murray Fleming, chief executive officer of Glucose Health, Inc, the manufacturer of GlucoDown.

Other key ingredients in the GlucoDown formula include banaba leaf, which contains corosolic acid associated with hypoglycemic properties, as well as the trace minerals chromiuim picolinate, manganese citrate, and zinc picolinate. GlucoDown also contains vitamins B6, B7, and B12, all of which are important for helping maintain good health.

GlucoDown’s tea base is decaffeinated black tea, and it is sweetened with the non-sugar sucralose and contains 100-percent natural flavors.

GlucoDown is currently available on Amazon, through the product’s website and at 1-800-306-7001, and comes in several flavors, including peach, lemon, and raspberry.
