A new student run news podcast has made its debut on Hope Pod, bringing a local news perspective to campus radio. Belonging to Communities of Hope, Hope Pod is a live radio show that plays on 88.3 FM every Friday at 12 p.m., providing listeners with engaging conversations, stories, and interviews that highlight voices from both Roger Williams University and the surrounding community. The radio show features a new segment featuring local news stories from the week prior, covering everything from politics and education to public affairs, LGBTQ+ news, and foster care and adoption stories. And it’s called The Rhode Island Rundown.
The Rhode Island Rundown features co-hosts Makalah Gaine and me, who also serve as writers. We are joined by Roslyn Iaderosa and Kate Tortolini who write, edit, and produce the show.
Each Hope Pod episode includes two five-minute audio segments that balance hard news with human-interest storytelling, as well as stories that relate to Communities of Hope’s other sections. In addition to airing live, they will be posting full audio clips and accompanying visuals across social media platforms, expanding engagement with the RWU and greater Rhode Island and New England communities.
Listeners can find The Rhode Island Rundown on Instagram (@rhodeislandrundown) and on TikTok (@therhodeislandrundown) for exclusive content. For inquiries, collaborations, or story ideas, the team can be reached via email at [email protected].
