Senior Setter, Emma Bosco captured her 1,000th career assist in the Oct. 25th game against Wentworth. The Hawks took an 8-4 lead in the second set against the Leopards when Bosco secured her 1,000th career assist; joining her two teammates who also hit 1,000 career milestones.
“It felt great. I wasn’t really thinking about it to be honest until they were celebrating it,” said Bosco. “It takes everybody to get that. It takes our passers, takes our hitters, getting kills. So, I think it says something about our team about how we play together.”
Senior Outside Hitter, Kaylee Jackson and junior libero and defensive specialist, Marianna Hernandez had hit their 1,000th career digs at earlier parts of the season. Jackson achieved her milestone against Rivier on Oct. 22nd at the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium. Hernandez captured her 1,000th career dig on September 6th against Wheaton also at home.
“We have great players that work really hard and practice. I think it shows on the court that they’re able to do that,” said Head Coach Danielle Davis.
The Hawks dropped their first set to the Leopards, losing that one 25-14 but came out strong in the second; leading by as much as 8 when they led 18-10. The set ended off 25-17 with back-to-back points by Jackson, who had kept them in it till the end of the set.
“She’s such a good leader. She’s just that person we’re able to turn to on the court when things are going awry and have that confidence in her,” said Davis. “I think for her, for us that’s nothing new being able to give Kaylee the ball and trust in her to get it done.”
The Hawks proceeded to lose back-to-back sets, which led to the game finishing 3-1 with the Leopards on top. Through this game, the Hawks suffered their first conference loss of the season, now bringing their conference record to 6-1, according to the CNE athletics website.
“We needed to do our jobs, get it done, play aggressive, focus on us. Unfortunately, it did not happen. But I think it was a good wake up call for us,” said Davis. “We still believe we’re the better team and maybe we’ll see them down the road.”
The next conference opponent for the Hawks will be the University of New England who will come to Bristol for a 1:00pm Saturday, Nov. 1st matchup. The Hawks hold a 6-3 home record as of Oct. 28th, according to the RWU athletics website.
“I think we play great at home. We feed off the energy, but I think it’s all about our team coming together and playing together. Feeding off our own energy and not relying on other people,” said Bosco
As of Oct. 28th, the Hawks are ranked third in the CNE after holding the number one spot prior to their game against Wentworth. The season will conclude with three straight conference matchups. Nov. 1st versus the University of New England, Nov. 5th at Hartford, and Nov. 8th to finish the season against Western New England.
“We believe that the person across the net are in our way of our ultimate goal, so we need to play our best. Every team is important to us,” said Davis on the toughest team going forward.
