If you have opened Hawk Link recently, you may have seen a new feature called “Points.” On the home page, you can see current and lifetime Points. Within Hawk Link, coordinator Adrianne Harris, Associate Director of Student Programs, Leadership, and Orientation (SPLO) can tag events with point values, and students can see how many Points they get by attending events. Not all events will be tagged with Points, but you as a student will be able to see how many Points you have accumulated during that period and during your lifetime at Roger. Right now, students are seeing the exact same number for their current Points and their lifetime Points because it is new, but overtime the current Points counter will reset and the lifetime Points will accumulate.
“The point system is a new feature within the Hawk Link system,” Harris explained, “We’re able to tag certain events with a point value, and students will be able to see how many Points they’re accumulating by attending these different types of events.”
Students can earn Points twice by attending one event, Harris told the Herald. Coming Out Week has a week’s worth of Points from each event. For example, SAGA’s Karaoke Night will count as Points for Coming Out Week and for the Music and Movies category. With events like that, Points will move quickly across the leaderboard. The next “Challenge Accepted” event will be there. If you’re curious about which events can earn Points, look in the description of events on Roger Link.
As for a little background, the company responsible is Anthology Engage who owns Hawk Link. “We’re a tester school for Points,” Harris explained, “At a conference this summer, I volunteered and we were picked. We’re in the first round now along with nine other schools as beta testers.” In the following months the platform will open to more schools until January when all schools with the Anthology Engage platform will have access to Points. “In this first phase we tell them what works, we can help them adapt it.”
“Paths” is the original tool where “We select events and students can fill out reflections to get to the end goal of our choosing. For example, the leadership program attendance has seven required meetings or events plus three optional and students must write six reflections to achieve the leadership certificate.” Harris said.
“Points is sort of the opposite,” Harris said, “We identify events that offer an experience and create the incentive to attend.” If there are ten events with Points, students can pick and choose which to go to based on interest and not feel like they are missing out on Points. Competitive people could go to more events to get Points, but they can discover things they like or leadership opportunities along the way.
Most events will range between 5-10 Points, some will be worth more like campus traditions, such as homecoming weekend, students could win up to 100 Points. There have been 5-6 events with Points so far, the leaderboard shows students in mid to high 20’s. At the end of each semester Points could range anywhere from 400-1000 Points. When asked about how often students will earn prizes and the leaderboard will reset, Harris said, “Ideally at the end of each month. The system is new, so I can only set up one end time at the end of the semester.”
“There will be large Points to those who attend both Casino Night and Autumn Fest during parents’ weekend, 50 Points for each” Harris shared exclusively with the Herald, “It should throw the leaderboard off.”
Prizes at the end of each semester could include CEN’s spring concert tickets, Hawk Dollars, an amazon shopping spree, or money towards a concert ticket of choice.
For Points to work, the event needs to be in Hawk Link, and the hosts of the event need to be taking attendance. You can scan your QR code Event Pass on the Roger Link app, and after the event you’ll see the Points you’ve acquired on Hawk Link. There is no limit for the number of events or Points per semester, so get your Event Pass out and get some Points!
