Roger Williams University officially opened its brand-new Commuter Lounge last week, offering a welcoming space designed specifically for commuter students. Located across from Lower Commons, the lounge was created in response to long-standing student feedback requesting a space to relax, recharge, and connect with peers between classes.
The lounge features cozy couches, a computer station, printer, TV, mini fridge, and a variety of other resources that commuter students have been asking for — making it a true home base on campus. It even includes student artwork, games, and thoughtful touches to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
To celebrate the grand opening, students gathered throughout the afternoon to enjoy free pizza, snacks, and a visit from Roger, RWU’s favorite golden retriever. The event had a laid-back, community-driven vibe — the very feeling the space aims to foster on a daily basis.
Several members of the RWU administration came out to show their support, including Title IX Coordinator Jen Stanley, Associate Vice President for Student Life Derek Zuckerman, and Assistant Provost for Student Success Allison Chase Padula. Their presence underscored the university’s commitment to supporting commuter students and ensuring their needs are met.
With the lounge now open, RWU takes another meaningful step toward making campus life inclusive and accessible for all students, no matter where they live.
