Just last week, RWU’s Campus Entertainment Network (CEN) hosted its annual March Meltdown week. For those unfamiliar with this event, it is typically held around late March to kick off the spring season. This year, campus-engaging activities ran for three days straight.
March Meltdown always has a theme. Each activity will revolve around that theme in some way. This year was all about space and everything extra-terrestrial that you could imagine.
Thursday, March 20th, was a night of “Cosmic Creations” where students painted galaxies of their own in GHH. Not only was painting a highlight, but for the sake of the theme, painters got to enjoy the animated movie “Home” (2015). There was a great turnout, and many got to leave with their own starry creations to hang up in their dorms.
The following Friday’s event took place in the Field House and consisted of laser tag, food trucks, and a variety of other games like a large connect four board and a bean bag toss. Students could pick one of two food trucks outside, which offered either grilled cheese sandwiches or lemonade.
Amidst all of the fun, there was a big reveal to be had. Every Meltdown, the highlight is the announcement of the Spring Week performers. This week is essentially just a prelude to that. Late April, a special guest band or performer and a comedian take the stage and give campus two of the most unforgettable nights of the year.
Campus was visited by the band COIN and comedian Preacher Lawson last year and that Spring Week turned out to be a great success. Believe it or not, RWU’s had comedians as popular as Pete Davidson host. The best part is, it’s always voted by students, so in the coming years make sure to be on the lookout for the Spring Week forms sent out early in the school year.
Returning to this current announcement, the 2025 performers are Sarah Sherman and Yung Gravy! They’ll be here in just under a month to end the year on an exciting note.
That being said, March Meltdown was not over just yet. There was one final event on the next day, Saturday the 22nd. Starting at 12:30, students who bought tickets could attend a “Galactic Getaway” trip to the Boston Museum of Science. Everyone was allowed to wander and experience the technological wonders of the museum and experience a space themed show as well.
Another staple of the spring semester has come and gone, but there is so much more to look forward to on the horizon. Make sure to keep up to date with Student Programs, Leadership & Orientation (SPLO) and CEN to see what is in store for upcoming campus ventures. Before you know it, the semester is over, so make the most of these next several weeks.
