It was April 15th, 60 degrees and sunny on the quad was the backdrop for this hit event hosted by Feminist United and Sustainability Club. Within the first hour fashionistas gathered, united as one, for the cause.
Natalie Alford, the Vice President of Feminist United, said, “Half of the proceeds are going to go to Women for Women International and the Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District. Any leftover clothes are going to go to a women’s shelter or thrift store.”
80% of the funds are going to the chosen organizations and then 20% will be split amongst the Feminist United and Sustainability Club.
When asked how the prep went for this event Alford said: “ Two weeks ago we put boxes in all 27 of the laundry rooms and people could put anything that they wanted so obviously we got a lot of clothes, shoes and accessories. Yesterday we washed all of this and organized it and put it out for today.”
There were numerous tables of clothing as well as clothing racks, and dozens of shoppers were in attendance within the first hour with arms full of great finds.
Alford said they were not expecting as much clothing as they got, and of such high quality.
“For our turn out we expected a lot smaller than this,” Alford said in response to the growing crowd.
Students and Professors alike were talking about the luck they had in finding something worth taking home. A great success for two important causes. We are looking forward to seeing this event continue and evolve in Roger Williams’s future.
