Have you ever felt the need on campus to let your creative mind flow and share an artistic experience with your friends? Well this past Thursday I went to the Fine Arts Building, otherwise known as the Muffin, for the Art Club’s bi-weekly meeting. Aside from having such a great time painting with watercolors, I got the opportunity to speak to the President of Art Club, Ana Sofia Froekjaer, and ask her for insight on the organization.
One of my main questions was what the difference was between this year’s art club and last years, to which I got a great answer. Ana explained to me that “last year’s art club e-board wasn’t really consistent with their meetups, it was every other week, and it wasn’t very structured when we came in, but I still had a good time.” Last year, all of the e-board graduated which led both Ana and Sydney Zobel, the Arts and Projects Chair member, to take it upon themselves to revamp the club and make it better for the future.
As someone who had just gone to Art Club for the first time, I was constantly wondering what some of Ana’s favorite projects were that the group took most interest in and what there was to look forward to in the future. Ana told me that “one of my favorites is one that we did in the fall semester of 2023 where we went down to the beach when it was nice weather out and filled glass ornaments with sand and shells. Everyone had a really good time and we spent a good majority of time outside.”
“As for the future, I’m really excited about all the collaborations that we will have going on. Just in April, we’re collaborating with three different clubs in many different events; some we’re bringing our own activities, others, we’re just helping, but overall I’m just super happy how successful our club is and being to have all these opportunities is pretty cool!”
Ana wanted me to express that absolutely anyone can join Art Club, and I can attest that you will have a really good time! For more information and meeting times, visit their Instagram page @rwuartclub.
