Women at Grammys dress to impress
Last night, the Grammy’s red carpet showcased not only an array of light and feminine party dresses, but structured pant suits worn by the women who stepped out at the award show. The female celebrities dominated the red carpet with a twist on traditional award show fashion, straying from the typical ball gown to a mix of masculine and womanly style.
Anna Kendrick, Kesha, and Grammy winner for best new artist, Alessia Cara, strutted with confidence down the carpet in pant suit sets, ditching the dress memo. Kendrick paired a black and white plaid blazer with a strapless, lacy, bustier top underneath, and a pair of matching high-waisted trousers. She incorporated some color into her look with a pastel pink pump. Alessia Cara stuck with a more conventional look wearing a plain black blazer and satin pants with a basic white tee underneath. The pop singer completed the look with enlarged hoop earrings, ideal for the golden Grammys, and white converse.
Get these stars’ empowering suit look by combining a pair of fitted, patterned dress pants with a basic tight top and a buttoned blazer for a polished finish. The trouser trend coincides with the current #MeToo campaign and women’s empowerment buzz in Hollywood after a number of sexual assault allegations. Women at the Grammys did not only make a statement by stepping out in a male associated outfit, but the stars who walked the carpet also held a white rose as a symbol, supporting the fight against sexual abuse.
Pant suits were a governing trend spotted on the red carpet for the night’s event, but colorful embroidery also made an impact in the fashion premiered at the show. Elton John rocked a Gucci jacket covered in embroidered crystals forming tricolored geometric shapes over the black fabric. Janelle Monae also made a statement with a Dolce & Gabbana floral embroidered black suit. The outfit was marked brightly with flowers running down the side of the wide pant leg and covering the blazer’s shoulder pads. Carry over this embroidered trend to your own style by sporting jeans with patches of intricate design. Stores such as Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie offer a selection of pants with embroidered figures on them, creating an eye-catching look and emulating the style noticed at the Grammys.
