Revamp your dorm with a minor makeover
Open your blinds and give a breath of fresh air to your stuffy dorm room by placing bright green plants on your window sill or dresser. Specifically, succulent plants and mini cacti are ideal for busy college students to keep in their living spaces because the plants only need to be watered once a week. The detailed desert plants are a reminder of warmer weather, contrasting with the snow outside the window. Home improvement stores such as Lowe’s and Home Depot sell a variety of succulents and cacti to create an extensive collection. Place the plants in ceramic brown pots, small white vases, or mason jars for a country meets modern style. Terrariums are another option to organize your succulent plants, adding some mod statements to your room. To make your own terrarium at home get a glass spherical fish bowl. Pat down a thick layer of dirt at the bottom of the bowl, then organize your succulents how you choose to and dig them into the soil. Pour white or multicolored pebbles over the dirt surrounding each of the plants to complete the terrarium structure.
Just like plants, pictures can make all the difference in a college space with the way they are presented and arranged. One way to display your photo memories is by forming them in a creative shape on a blank wall. Polaroid photos offer a structured look to contribute to a polished, finished design such as a heart, star, or diamond shape. Polaroids also look neat lined up in even rows alongside posters or other larger photos. Another way to exhibit your favorite photos is to make a collage of them, cutting the pictures into various shapes and gluing them to a piece of construction paper. If you like the finished product, frame it and find a special spot to hang your creation.
