What to wear, what not to wear: How to dress for the big day
Commencement is a few weeks away, so it’s time to consult your closet on what to wear. Whether you are crossing the stage or sitting in the audience, you will want to dress to impress. Now, if the clothes in your closet aren’t satisfying you, it never hurts to exercise your credit card.
Here are some suggestions:
Khakis, dress pants, polos and button down shirts are all viable options. Depending on the shirt, you might want to wear a tie as well. Stay away from jackets and suits since warm weather is upon us. Leather shoes or any dress shoe are favorable footwear options. Try to spruce up your outfit with a watch or meaningful bracelet or necklace.
Dresses, skirts or slacks with a cute blouse and cardigan are all fashionable outfits for this occasion. As for shoes, flats are the best option. Commencement will most likely take place outdoors on the grass and no one wants their heels to sink into the ground. Dress up your outfit with jewelry. Remember that silver jewelry looks good with everything, while gold jewelry looks best with reds, purples and other bright colors.
Fashion Fails:
Try to avoid wearing hoodies, sweatshirts, sweatpants, jeans, sneakers and anything else that is considered informal attire. Commencement is an important occasion and being underdressed will set you apart from the crowd.
At the end of the day, remember that these are only friendly suggestions and that you should wear whatever makes you feel best!
