The juicy gossip about the new drinks in Commons
If you were on campus last year, chances are you knew about the whole switching over from Coca-Cola products to Pepsi ordeal. It seemed like such an unnecessary hassle to me when I first heard about it at the end of the year. Of course the administration had its reasons, one being that Pepsi offered a more diverse selection of drinks compared to what Coke had on the table. But switching companies is old news. That’s not what I’m here to talk about. I’m here to talk about why it was such a mistake. The number one reason? The juice.
This wasn’t even an issue that occurred to me until it was far too late. All I originally thought about was the fact that I wouldn’t have my Sprite anymore, which does still upset me. Before you say it, no, Sierra Mist absolutely is not the same thing. What I didn’t realize is that Minute Maid is Coke’s juice brand, and that it would be replaced with Dole. I’ve always loved Minute Maid, but wasn’t sure about Dole. So one night at Upper Commons I decided to try it out and I got myself some cranberry juice. To tell you I was disappointed is an understatement. It’s watered down and there’s hardly any sweetness to mask the characteristically bitter taste of cranberry juice. Whoever taste-tests the products must not appreciate the worth of sugar and I mean, maybe it’s healthier to not be drinking as much sugar. But, I’m aware of my choices and when I choose to drink juice I choose to do so unhealthily.
All in all, I wish I could say the switch was a good idea. I know some people would disagree with me, especially now that we have those Starbucks bottled drinks, but I personally don’t think it was worth sacrificing Sprite and good juice.
