An annual run/walk held on campus Monday, Oct. 6 raised $300 for the American Cancer Society. 

The Hawk Trot for a Cure was hosted by the Class of 2021. The event started at 12 on the quad outside Commons. Participants paid a $5 registration fee to be part of the event and run or walk a little over a mile.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but the Trot’s theme focused on cancer in general. Funds raised at the event will go to the American Cancer Society, said Tyler Sanderson, a member of the Inter-Class Council.

Colleges Against Cancer, a program supported by the American Cancer Society, partnered with the class to create this event. During the week leading up to the event, student organizers distributed information at a table set up in Commons to raise awareness about different kinds of cancer and their effects. They also staffed a table outdoors on the quad at the event.

Different campus clubs and organizations also pitched in to set up tables during the run. WQRI covered the music for the event. 

On one of the tables set up, there was a “Spin to Win” game, where people could win prizes such as bracelets, candy, bubble gum, hats, lanyards and phone backers.

The Inter-Class Council set up a snack stand serving popcorn, biscuits, bananas, mini muffins and water bottles. The Psychology Club served pink lemonade while the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC) set up a rock painting table.
