It’s that time of year again, Hawks! The leaves are changing, the weather’s getting colder—it’s fall! And with fall comes a busy yet fun-filled week of every semester: Spirit Week!
Every year, Spirit Week is planned by Inter-Class Council (ICC).
“I’m really looking forward to the excitement of the students and getting everyone involved,” said junior Andrea Arnold, the ICC Spirit and Traditions Chair. “It’s important to have Spirit Week because it brings the campus together as a whole, outside of different organizations, different clubs, different majors.”
Arnold continued, “[The programming] is not separate, there’s no [group] that we’re focusing on. We’re including everyone–students, faculty, and anybody who wants to come and join us to showcase their spirit is welcome. It’s important to always keep these things going because they can encompass the entire university rather than a select community.”
ICC concocted a fun schedule for the student body and RWU members to participate in. The schedule is as follows:
Sunday, Oct. 15: Fall Harvest – An outdoor event located on quad with food trucks, lawn games, and even a make your own bracelet station.
Monday, Oct. 16: Spot-a-Hawk Scavenger Hunt. There will be 11-12 miniature hawk buttons spread out across campus with tags saying, “Come to commons to receive your free t-shirt.” There will also be a photo booth with custom Bristol backgrounds and props.
Tuesday, Oct. 17: Roger Williams Zoo Pumpkin Spectacular Getaway.
Wednesday, Oct. 18: “A-Pizza Bristol” – A friendly competition of “pizza wars” between Bristol pizza places. Students will get to try one cheese pizza and one specialty pizza from each booth. Afterwards, students will vote on the best cheese and specialty pizza. The winners will be named RWU’s favorite cheese and specialty pizza!
“The pizzeria will get a plaque and a certificate stating that they’re Roger Williams University students’ favorite pizza,” Arnold said. “I think it’s a great way to incorporate the community into our campus and kind of [be] able to get students involved while also putting the word out there for local businesses.”
